First Study on LSD for Depression is Published

This study may capture an early observation of the importance of the mystical experience in psychedelic therapy.

1952

From the abstract:

“Improvement obtained during the course of LSD therapy was not greater than that obtained without its use in comparable cases. However, LSD affords therapeutically valuable insights into unconscious processes by the medium of the hallucinations it produces.”

The second sentence is an early recognition (the first?) of the current theory that a complete mystical experience is critical to psychedelic therapy.
