Researchers Find Baeocystin in Mushrooms From US, Canada, Mexico, and Peru

Researchers find baeocystin in three of 10 species of mushrooms from the US, Canada, Mexico, and Peru.

November 1977

Researchers test 10 species of mushrooms for the presence of baeocystin. Using thin-layer chromatography, they detected its presence in Psilocybe cubensis, P. semilanceata, and P. cyanescens collected in the US, Canada, Mexico, and Peru. The study also discusses variations in the decay rates of baeocystin, psilocybin, and psilocin among the species and storage factors affecting it. Finally, the authors present evidence for the presence of 4-hydroxytryptamine in some of the mushrooms and the significance.
