Researchers at New York University found psilocybin used in conjunction with psychotherapy “produced rapid, robust and enduring anxiolytic and antidepressant effects in patients with cancer-related psychological stress.” For the study, twenty-nine patients with anxiety and depression related to their cancer diagnosis received a single dose of 0.3 mg/kg psilocybin or niacin along with psychotherapy. The researchers propose that the mystical experience from the psilocybin was responsible for the therapeutic effects of reduced anxiety and depression.
