Researchers find that using meditation and other spiritual practices along with psilocybin produces long-lasting positive changes in psychological functioning and prosocial attitudes and behaviors.

October 2017

Roland Griffiths and a team of researchers at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine tested 3 groups of 25 healthy volunteers with varying doses of psilocybin and different levels of support for their spiritual practice; low dose with standard support, high dose with standard support, and high dose with high support. At 6 months, both high dose groups experienced positive changes it mood, attitude, altruism, behaviors and increased spirituality compared the low dose group. Also, those in the high dose/high support group reported greater mystical experiences and the effects were more persistent compared to the other two groups.
